Vigilant Parent Initiative - Contra Costa County DA Presentation

Description
  • The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office in partnership with local law enforcement departments is excited to announce that we are once again offering the Vigilant Parent Initiative to all Contra Costa County Elementary and Middle Schools.

  • The Vigilant Parent Initiative uses a school setting to interactively engage parents in the use of Social Media and Technology. Using iPads that we provide, parents are shown how to navigate Social Media, monitor their children's usage, and master key concepts that can keep their children safe from online predators. The free 2-hour class is for PARENTS ONLY. There are 24 iPads, so the maximum number of participants is 48 if parents pair up to share devices. The minimum number of parents attending should be 24.

  • Among the topics covered will be:

  • · How the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children (SVICAC), the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office, and local law enforcement agencies work together to protect children from online predators.

  • · Explanation of social media essentials for two popular applications (i.e. Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Roblox, etc)

  • · How to set Parental Controls.

  • · How to talk about online safety with your children.
